How is directional drilling done?

As with any decision regarding the purchase of machinery, you must first determine which are the most important parts of the equipment; second, what selection of equipment is available on the market; and third, if one can carefully inspect what is available.

Only in this way can a successful purchase of horizontal directional drilling be made. Each of these categories of information is made up of important elements that must be carefully considered.

The initial information on your new directional drill rig should include what parts it contains, which parts will wear the most, and maintenance requirements. Have the maintenance requirements been met? Otherwise, it is probably a pass of the article, to find a more reliable specimen that could be in production sooner.

Major components include the “walk-over” or “wireline” locating system for the project’s drill head. Other items that should be on your classification list are the transmitter or “probe”, which must be classified based on age and the number of documented operating hours. When reviewing used equipment, make sure your inspection list and maintenance report include any components that record angle, rotation, direction, or temperature data, as these will be your eyes and ears below the surface.

They will locate the purpose of your project and avoid obstacles that can increase the cost of your jobs and therefore eat up your profits. Formal maintenance records should be provided for such items, and any missing spaces or entries in these records should be further reviewed, which could result in equipment failure.

Some of the suggested guidelines are, of course, common sense, but they are an important foundation of the basics for the review. Forgetting something in the rig market can mean the difference between profit and loss on future projects. That is, know the factors that affect your day-to-day at work, since they are the basic ones that can improve your business.

Since some of these components record electromagnetic signals that translate into meaningful data about a project, their importance cannot be overemphasized. These parts should be compatible with any portable locator device that will be used with the equipment you are considering purchasing, so this section of the checklist should be fairly comprehensive. An experienced dealer or operator will recognize the importance of this and know what level of wear and tear is acceptable. It goes without saying that every part of the drill string needs to be checked very carefully. Both the surface mount receiver and cable system must be in good working order to working with the operator for the best results.

Directional drilling, especially with horizontal variety drilling rigs, is longer than conventional vertical drilling. The compatibility and wear of other equipment considered for purchase should be evaluated. Such parts include the drag drill, which is used with a reclaimed; any excavator; and one of the many pumps and hoses. Others may be

An experienced and reliable dealer who is familiar with this type of equipment can be an excellent source of help. The dealer can help determine what capacity a particular machine can handle and if it is suitable for the intended job.

Remember, your main concern should be the major components, job requirements, and available selection. Next, consider the number of service hours and what the maintenance records show, comparing all the above information with the prices, service, and warranties available for the affected HDD equipment.
